KPMG has reached out a helping hand to Outward-Bound Oman, offering to deliver a pro bono social impact analysis on the non-profit’s operations.

Since its foundation in 2009, Outward Bound Oman has trained and helped shape the lives of more than 20,000 people in the country – as part of its mission to contribute to the national talent pillar of the government’s Vision 2040 roadmap.

Outward Bound Oman delivers its training services from three training centers, with courses serving a range of stakeholders from school and university students to job seekers, the socially disadvantaged, people undergoing drug rehabilitation, and professionals working at companies and government organisations.

Now working with KPMG, Outward Bound Oman aims to understand how its support is benefitting Oman’ society. Co-funded by government groups and corporates such as Omantel, HSBC and Shell, the social impact analysis by the consultants will also provide the not-for-profit with an indication of the social return it is providing its sponsors and partners.

Mohamed Al Zadjali, Chief Operating Officer at Outward Bound Oman, commented: “Outward Bound has been running for years, and we have considerable evidence that shows the impact on individual participants. This analysis by KPMG will help identify and quantify the longer-term benefits to society, and to government. We look forward very much to working with KPMG’s team in the coming months.”

KPMG’s analysis will consist of two deliverables. The social impact analysis will explore Outward Bound Oman’s social, environmental, and economic contributions to Oman’s society. The Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis will then quantify these benefits [a ratio that states how much social value in $ is created for every $1 of investment] and guide decision-making on investments, both internally and externally.

The partnership comes amid Outward Bound Oman’s busiest period ever. In 2023, the non-profit is planning to deliver training courses to more than 4,000 people.

Commenting on the firm’s commitment, Kenneth MacFarlane, Managing Partner of KPMG in Oman, said that the initiative is part of the “KPMG’s commitment to driving purposeful business in the region and empowering youth with future skills.”

“We recognise the huge importance of ESG and the need to create a sustainable future for all. We are honoured to partner with Outward Bound Oman to help them build a resilient sustainable future.”

Earlier this year, KPMG’s ESG policy saw the Big Four firm support the 1 Billion Meals campaign.
