EY has appointed Mustapha Abdellati as leader of its CFO Advisory Services practice in the Netherlands. He co-leads the practice with René Carrillo, who has been overseeing the unit’s portfolio for the financial sector for several years.

The pair are both partners at the Big Four firm and have years of experience in financial strategy and services. In the coming period, they will continue to build their team and capabilities to meet the growing need from CFOs for strategic advice.

EY’s CFO Advisory Services team has a presence in offices worldwide. Its Dutch team currently comprises around 150 consultants and staff.

The CFO agenda

“The challenges that CFO’s are facing today are extremely complex,” Abdellati explains. “They include increasing regulations, financial and non-financial disclosures that require assurance, the societal need for trust, the rapid development of technological innovations and the tension between short-term results and long-term value creation.”

Transforming for sustainable success

The newly appointed EY leader continues: “It is essential for CFO’s to have a clear vision of the future of the finance function. That vision must then be translated into developing the right competencies and leveraging emerging technologies to achieve the necessary transformation and ensure the long-term success of their organization.”

Carrillo adds: “In addition, in a number of industries, including the financial sector, we see that both financial and non-financial information needs and obligations have grown tremendously. The value and quality of information are increasingly at issue in this regard. This brings all kinds of challenges as well as opportunities that we are happy to help our clients with!”

Strengthening technological capabilities

Abdellati concludes: “We do this, not least, by further strengthening our technological capabilities. For example, we recently developed an advanced AI-based dashboard for a client that provides real-time insight into financial processes and KPIs, leading to improved efficiency and insights. We have also guided several multinationals in transforming their financial business model, which resulted in increased operational efficiency and better financial control.”

The CFO Advisory Services team's offerings include Transaction Accounting, Finance Transformation, Finance Data and analytics, IPO readiness, Post-Merger integration, Sustainability and ESG reporting, and GAAP conversions.
