Established in 2015, Melbourne-headquartered Bourne Digital has been purchased by professional services powerhouse Accenture, the latest in a string of cloud and tech acquisitions.

Global professional services giant Accenture has snapped up Australian SAP consultancy Bourne Digital for an undisclosed sum, with a team of 66 professionals across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to join Accenture’s local SAP business group – which was previously boosted through the acquisition of fellow SAP specialist Zag.

Bourne founder and managing director Selim Ahmed said that his focus would now be on further growth. “Joining forces with Accenture gives us the opportunity to scale our offering and deliver high-quality SAP digital transformation services across the region,” he stated.

Ahmed continued, “It will provide a platform for bold, new innovations with our customers and new development opportunities and career growth for our experienced professionals – with their design DNA and deep SAP skills – while helping Accenture further strengthen its leadership position in Australia.”

Established by Ahmed in Sydney in 2015 following more than a decade and a half spent between PwC, Deloitte, Bearing Point and IBM Consulting, Bourne Digital has since won multiple SAP innovation awards, and in 2019 became the first SAP partner to launch a UX design and innovation ‘AppHaus’ in the Australian market. The consultancy serves clients on the development and integration of digital and cloud solutions with a human-centred design approach.

Accenture said its latest local acquisition (roughly its twelfth across business segments over the past four years) would strengthen the firm’s SAP digital design and user experience capabilities and help its clients to better utilise its SAP solutions, pointing especially to those operating within the fast-moving consumer goods, financial services, health, travel, and resources sectors. Australia is said to be home to the world’s fourth-largest SAP user-base.

“In times of disruption, organisations need to digitise business processes in an increasingly compressed timeframe to become more creative, competitive and profitable,” said Accenture technology lead Matt Coates, with A/NZ CEO Peter Burns adding; “Accenture’s deep heritage and experience in large-scale technology transformation projects and Bourne Digital’s top talent and user-led design capabilities make a powerful combination in the Australian market.”
