Business networking platform LinkedIn has named its top 15 companies in the UAE for career progression, with strategy consultancies Kearney, McKinsey & Company and Boston Consulting Group making the list.
Now into its third local edition, the LinkedIn Top Companies ranking is compiled according to the platform’s extensive data on eight measures of career progression, including in areas such as skills growth, company attractiveness, advancement opportunities, and gender diversity.
The rankings also track employee promotions within companies and departures, including overall attrition rates.
While consulting firms on a global level perform relatively well on LinkedIn’s list (the ranking is released in 20+ countries), last year’s top 15 employer list for the UAE notably did not include any consultancies.
Three of the world’s leading strategy consulting firms – Kearney, McKinsey & Company and Boston Consulting Group – have however turned consulting’s tables, with Kearney even landing the third spot, just behind airliner Emirates and consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble.
Punching above its eight, Kearney is smaller than rivals McKinsey & Company and Boston Consulting Group, both globally as well as in the region. All three firms are privately-held partnerships headquartered in the United States, and have been in business for over 60 years.
“We’re proud to be considered amongst the 15 best workplaces to grow your career in the UAE by LinkedIn,” said Bob Willen, Managing Director of Kearney Middle East & Africa. “As a firm, we’ve never lost sight of the fact that management consulting is a people business – our people make us who we are.”
McKinsey & Company is the world’s largest strategy-focused consultancy firm, with around 40,000 staff – around 15,000 more than the market’s second-largest player, Boston Consulting Group. McKinsey has been active in the Middle East since 1957, while Boston Consulting Group’s presence in the region stretches back two decades.
The trio of firms also hold leading positions in ConsultancyME’s ‘Top consulting firms in the Middle East’ ranking.
The other leaders
Outside of consulting, the 2023 UAE list has a reasonably familiar look, dominated by large regional and global multinationals. The top 15 are: 1. Emirates | 2. Procter & Gamble | 3. Kearney | 4. Majid Al Futtaim | 5. Visa | 6. Schneider Electric | 7. McKinsey & Company | 8. ByteDance | 9. Henkel | 10. ADNOC Group | 11. Boston Consulting Group | 12. Amazon | 13. Oracle | 14. HSBC | 15. General Electric.
Meanwhile, in LinkedIn’s other top employer rankings for the Middle East, no consulting firms featured in the lists for Saudi Arabia and Turkey, while EY was the sole industry player to feature in the Egypt edition.
