Big Four firm Deloitte has made two executive-level appointments in the Middle East, installing Akbar Ahmad and Muhammad Bahemia as the new leaders of its Audit & Assurance and Tax divisions.

The new leader of the Audit & Assurance division, Akbar Ahmad, has been with Deloitte for fifteen years, having previously served another Big Four firm for a dozen years.

Ahmad makes the step up from Clients & Industries Leader, where he was responsible for Deloitte’s overall engagement strategy with clients across the Middle East. Previously, Ahmad was a leader in the firm’s Financial Services industry practice.

Commenting on his appointment, Ahmad said: “I am excited and proud to lead our Audit & Assurance business which has a critical role to play in the economic diversification and transformation being delivered in the region.”

“The focus and expectations of the markets on the provision of high-quality corporate reporting has never been greater. We are committed to delivering high quality services in an efficient and effective way that uphold integrity and drive value.”

Meanwhile, three-decade company veteran Muhammad Bahemia has been elevated to the top seat in the firm’s Tax division. Bahemia most recently was the Chief Operations Officer of the Tax division, and previously served as leader of the Business Tax practice and head of the Tax division for Oman and Qatar.

“It’s a great honour to lead the Tax practice which boasts incredible talent and great professionalism. Our team brings an unparalleled level of insight to the table with vast knowledge and expertise, which perfectly reflects Deloitte's ongoing commitment to deliver excellence,” said Bahemia.

Mutasem Dajani, the CEO of Deloitte in the Middle East, congratulated both leaders on their new executive-level positions, in the process recognising the “instrumental role” they have played in driving Deloitte’s growth in the region.

In the Middle East, Deloitte has more than 5,000 partners and staff working from 25+ offices in 14 countries.
