BDO Canada has hired Kara Kempin as a partner in its Edmonton office. The mid-market accounting and consulting firm also promoted 37 team members in its 2023 partner class.
Kempin rejoins BDO after spending the last year as chief financial officer of startup ValueLaw.ca. She previously spent over four years in BDO’s Edmonton office as a senior manager in assurance and accounting.
In her new role as partner, Kempin will continue to provide guidance in tax preparation, accounting, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), tax accounting, and income tax.
Kempin has 20 years of experience in professional services with a focus on serving companies in real estate and construction. Prior to joining BDO, she was a senior manager at HGA Chartered Accountants and MowbreyGil LLP. Kempin began her career at Harris McConann LLP, where she was a staff accountant.
She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Alberta and is a chartered professional accountant.
“We are excited to have Kara join the team. Not only does she have comprehensive industry experience, but her commitment to going above and beyond to help clients will be an incredible asset,” said Matt Peron, business services & outsourcing Alberta office service line leader, BDO Canada.
The firm also welcomed 37 professionals to its partnership, effective January 1, 2023. The promotions were across all practice areas and service lines.
