In perhaps a sign of the country’s promising economic outlook, New Zealand has welcomed an international consulting firm to its shores: business and technology outfit Slalom.
Hot on the heels of Boston Consulting Group’s return to New Zealand after having departed in 2009, global consultancy Slalom now touches down for the first time with the launch of an office in Auckland.
The new outlet follows those established Melbourne and then Sydney since the start of 2020, which have grown to house 200 professionals within two years.
Headquartered in the United States, Slalom specialises in business and technology transformations across multiple technology platforms (including AWS, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce and more). The company employs more than 13,000 people in 40+ countries, and generates annual revenue of over $2 billion.
“We offer clients end to end services, from strategic consulting to building amazing products, so they can connect more deeply and best serve their customers,” said Michael Shimota, Slalom’s country leader for Australia and New Zealand.
“Our new practice in New Zealand sets itself apart from competitors because our consultants are local, but our capabilities are global and we can help New Zealand customers expand their reach around the world.”
According to the firm, those customers include notable local companies such as Air New Zealand, Fidelity Life and Vector, with Slalom co-founder and APAC executive president John Tobin stating clients like to work with Slalom (which was established in Seattle as Two Degrees Consulting in 2001) in addressing their strategic, technological, and business transformation needs due to the consultancy’s “purpose-driven, fiercely human approach”.
In New Zealand, the firm plans to hire more than 50 local professionals over the next year, with recruitment for open roles already underway. Meanwhile, Slalom’s Australian practice continues to see growing demand for its services, said Shimota.
In related news, Slalom recently also launched a new office in Tokyo, Japan.
