Charles River Associates (CRA), a Boston-headquartered management consultancy, has hired Jeffrey Garfield and Waqas Shahid as vice presidents in its forensic services practice.

Based in Chicago, Garfield has nearly 20 years of consulting and industry experience in financial and fraud investigations, SEC investigations, the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, forensic accounting, and compliance programs.

He has led compliance-focused engagements and investigations across various industries and geographies, with a specialization in life sciences.

Garfield joins CRA from KPMG, where he was a risk advisory partner focusing on investigations and compliance program transformation services. Before KPMG, he worked at Stryker, Alvarez & Marsal, Crowe, and Deloitte.

Garfield has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University.

Based in New York, Shahid has almost 20 years of consulting and legal experience focusing on compliance program design, investigations, and national security-related audits for highly regulated sectors. He is an expert in US technology export controls, foreign direct investment, economic sanctions, supply chain security, and data security.

Shahid joins CRA from Ankura, where he was co-founder and senior managing director of the consultancy’s national security, trade, and technology practice. Before that, he was a senior attorney at Sikorsky Aircraft and an associate at Latham Watkins.

Earlier in his career, Shahid was a senior consultant at Computer Sciences Corporation (now DXC) and Appian.

He has a law degree from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Virginia.

“Waqas and Jeff are widely recognized experts and are joining a team that is already ranked as one of the best in the world at helping companies develop scalable, data-driven solutions to prevent, detect, respond to, and emerge stronger from allegations of fraud, misconduct, and non-compliance, often in moments of crisis,” said Kristofer Swanson, leader of CRA’s forensic services practice.

CRA advises on business strategy, performance, and economic and financial matters pertaining to litigation and regulatory proceedings. The firm has more than 800 professionals across the Americas, Europe, and Australia.
