Management consultancy Bain & Company has acquired Umbrage, a Houston-based digital product studio.
Founded in 2019, Umbrage helps enterprise clients design, develop, and scale software solutions. The firm’s offerings span product management, full stack development, DevOps, UX/UI design, and quality assurance.
Umbrage works with clients in energy, resources, and financial services, among other industries. The firm has more than 75 employees across offices in Houston and Monterrey, Mexico, according to LinkedIn.
Bain’s acquisition of Umbrage will expand the innovation & design practice within its Vector digital services platform. Umbrage will continue to operate independently as a branded service line associated with Vector.
Launched in 2020, Vector is an integrated delivery platform spanning capabilities in enterprise technology, innovation & design, modern marketing, advanced analytics, and automation. The platform has more than 1,000 in-house team members and has completed 6,700+ digital projects.
"Bain's commitment to delivering results with clients requires expanding and enhancing its ability to innovate and industrialize digital solutions," said Arpan Sheth, global leader of Vector. "Joining forces with Umbrage will allow us to develop a best-in-class, craft-centric digital product and venture building studio that will enable our clients to not only develop successful digital strategies, but to also execute on these strategies through world-class software capabilities."
Will Womble, CEO of Umbrage, added, "We are excited to be joining forces with Bain to build on their extraordinary success to date, and to ensure our clients achieve next levels of growth during a time when undergoing digital transformations is critical for achieving superior business outcomes. Alongside Bain, we can deliver enhanced end-to-end solutions that will position our clients for success and to adapt during waves of disruptive emerging technologies."
Bain has over 15,000 people across 64 cities in 39 countries.
The Boston-headquartered firm last year acquired a minority stake in Trinity Life Sciences, a Boston-based life sciences consulting firm.
