With the aim of upskilling its top talent within the government sector, Qatar’s Civil Service and Government Development Bureau has launched a knowledge and capability transfer program with its top strategic and expert consulting partners.
Dubbed the ‘Knowledge Transfer’ initiative, the program enables Qatari government officials to follow a six-month development program and gain practical experience at top tier consultancies such as McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Kearney, Oliver Wyman and Roland Berger.
Alongside the six leading strategy consultancies, the ‘Knowledge Transfer’ initiative has inked framework agreements with the Big Four (Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC), Accenture, Moore, and Protiviti.
Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, said: “The Knowledge Transfer initiative provides an excellent opportunity for Qatari government workers to learn about the various specialised work environments from highly qualified international experts and specialists in strategic project management.”
“The 13 international consulting companies selected possess a proven track record of strategic projects in Qatar, across multiple sectors.”
“The benefits of the development program will ensure that participants acquire valuable skills and experience within their specialties and are able to apply their new skills at their workplaces,” he added.
These new skills will in turn help Qatar “raise the level of its government capabilities”, an objective that is part of the state’s aim to modernise its government agencies from within.
Announced in October last year, the first phase of the program kicked off early 2023, with the first batch of Qatari officials commencing their journey at their consultancies of choice.
The new program shows close resemblance to a number of similar initiatives across the GCC that aim to upskill government talent – with the help of their most trusted partners. In Abu Dhabi for instance, Capadev, Oliver Wyman, PwC and Strategy& are key partners of the so-called ‘Public Exchange Program’.
Meanwhile, there are also similar programs in place that run in the opposite direction, with top talent from consulting firms allowed to complete an externship in government agencies.
