Accenture has announced its intention to acquire an Italian center of excellence from automotive giant Stellantis, in a move that would bolster its manufacturing and operations practices.
The center of excellence, which is known internally as the World Class Manufacturing Training & Consulting business, is a unit that for over two decades has advised and supported internal teams within Stellantis (formerly Fiat) on optimising and streamlining their operations.
The center of excellence also has an external focus, and has built a track record supporting companies in the aerospace, defense, automotive, consumer goods, and heavy industry sectors with their manufacturing endeavours.
On the back of its work, the World Class Manufacturing Training & Consulting business has developed an award-winning methodology for production excellence. The approach is based on ten specific areas of the production system – safety, cost deployment, focused improvement, autonomous maintenance and workplace organisation, maintenance, quality control, logistic and customer service, early product and equipment management, environment, and people development.
“This acquisition would allow Accenture to integrate the team and methodology into our manufacturing division,” said Mauro Macchi, Market Unit Lead for Accenture in Italy.
“We help our manufacturing clients digitally transform business processes to maintain business continuity, achieve growth and become more sustainable. Their team will bolster our capabilities in this area by bringing a certified methodology and over 30,000 best practices to Accenture that can help our clients achieve tangible benefits faster.”
Completion of the acquisition is still subject to approvals within Stellantis and customary closing conditions.
If green lighted, the deal would be Accenture’s first in Italy this year. In 2021 the consulting and technology giant closed two deals: SAP specialist Ethica Consulting Group and ecommerce specialist Openmind.
Formed in 2021 by the merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, Stellantis is currently the world’s fifth largest automaker behind Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and General Motors. The group owns sixteen brands, including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, and Vauxhall.
