Global management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has launched its Inverto subsidiary in Italy.

Operating out of Milan since 1986 and Rome since 2001, Boston Consulting Group’s Italian team today consists of 500+ employees.

Most of the employees specialise in strategy and management services (around 300 according to BCG’s own website), but over the years Boston Consulting Group has diversified its offerings in the country with the launches of subsidiaries BCG Platinion (IT implementation) and BCG Gamma (artificial intelligence). Now joining the fold is Inverto, the firm’s procurement and supply chain consulting wing.

The launch continues Inverto’s growing footprint across Europe. Founded in Germany, and rapidly expanding into Austria, Inverto more recently expanded into the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and France. Italy bring Inverto’s presence in Europe to eight countries, the consultancy meanwhile also has one operation in Asia.

“We look forward to successfully developing our first Southern European location,” said Markus Bergauer, Managing Director and co-founder of Inverto, hinting at the firm’s ambition to enter more markets in the region (Spain is rumoured as the most likely market next in line, where BCG has over 600 employees).

“The goal in Italy is to have a senior team based in Italy by the end of the year,” said Bergauer. Inverto will operate from BCG’s 6,000 square meter office in Milan, which provides its staff with a spectacular view of the Duomo.

Leading the local growth ambition is Giovanni Grillo, a professional with over two decades of consulting experience. Grillo previously spent over fifteen years at Ayming (and its predecessor Lowendalmasai), latterly as managing director of the firm’s Southern Europe region overseeing a team of 150 consultants in 5 offices. Earlier, he worked four years for Corporate Value Associates, a boutique strategic consultancy.

During his career, Grillo gained extensive experience in performance improvement, supply chain procurement, operations optimisation, commercial excellence, and digitisation.

Commenting on his new challenge, Grillo said: “Inverto combines high strategic competence with operational capacity to act. I am very pleased to be able to drive this approach forward in Italy in the months ahead.”

A subsidiary of the Boston Consulting Group since 2016, Inverto currently has around 300 employees.
