Global strategy, sales & marketing consultancy Simon-Kucher & Partners has installed 30+ year marketing veteran Mark Cullen as its Chief Marketing Officer.

Based on London, Mark Cullen has been tasked with leading all aspects of brand, marketing, and communication of the fast-growing consulting firm, and with further lifting the company’s brand in the marketplace. Founded in 1985 in Germany, Simon-Kucher & Partners has grown into one of the leading global consultancies specialised in what it describes as the ‘sunny-side’ of consulting – strategic sales & marketing advisory.

Commenting on his appointment to the newly created role, Cullen said: “Simon-Kucher has a fantastic entrepreneurial culture and exciting growth plans. I look forward to building on that great foundation and being part of the next stage in that journey.”

Having booked double-digit growth for a string of years between 2020 and 2021, Simon-Kucher’s growth slowed down to 1% amid the Covid-19-induced downturn, however, in January co-CEOs Andreas von der Gathen and Mark Billige announced that the firm plans to return to double-digit growth this year.

The firm currently has 1,400 professionals working from 40 offices globally, generating revenues of €362 million. Going forward, the consulting firm has set the ambition to grow into a €500 million business in a few years time. A marketing and branding push will be an integral part of that growth plan.

Cullen brings over twenty years of marketing and communications experience gained across the consulting industry, as well as agency and client-side roles to the role. He joins from counterpart Alvarez & Marsal, where he was a leader in the global marketing team.

Earlier in his career, he spent nearly nine years with EY, where he led the global marketing of its Financial Services practice, winning several awards for integrated campaigns and successfully repositioning the brand. Before that, Cullen served among others Aviva, Publicis and NatWest.

Mark Cullen will report directly to London-based Mark Billige, who said, “I am delighted that we have recruited someone with Mark’s experience to this role. He will be an excellent addition to the Simon-Kucher leadership team, and I look forward to working with him to develop and expand our marketing and communications efforts.”
