Global strategy firm Bain & Company has named Jean-Charles van den Branden as the new Global Leader of its Sustainability practice.

Based out of Brussels, Jean-Charles van den Branden previously served as Bain & Company’s Sustainability leader for the EMEA region. He now takes on a global remit, and will work with leaders from the firm’s offices in 50+ countries to ensure Bain & Company remains at the forefront of the sustainability consulting landscape.

Sustainability is one of Bain & Company’s fastest growing service lines. Over the past year, the practice delivered over 2,200 projects worldwide.

The practice also plays a central role in the delivery of other projects. According to Bain & Company, 20% of all its current projects across industries have some form of cross-functional involvement from the Sustainability practice, a number that the firm wants to grow further as part of its mission to “set new standards of ESG excellence”.

Van den Branden, who takes over from fellow Belgian national François Faelli (who is now Global Head of Capabilities), has been with Bain & Company for over 28 years. A senior partner, his client track record includes shaping sustainability strategies for some of the world’s largest consumer products, industrial, and energy and natural resources companies. He also holds deep expertise in food systems transformation, circularity, and natural capital.

In addition, Van den Branden has experience in the private equity landscape, advising financial sponsors on acquisitions, value creation among portfolio companies, and exits.

“Jean-Charles has been a pivotal figure in driving our clients’ sustainability goals for the past 10 years,” said Christophe De Vusser, Worldwide Managing Partner at Bain & Company (and notably also a Belgian and the first European to ever lead the company in its 50-year history).

“Our Sustainability practice consists of some of the world’s top experts, working across every region and every industry toward our bold collective ambition of creating a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive world. I am confident Jean-Charles will lead the next wave of the practice’s growth, scaling it for even greater impact and advancing our ambition.”

Commenting on his new role, Van den Branden said: “I’m very excited and honoured to step into this role. We will continue to help our clients to deliver on a bold agenda to contribute to a more sustainable world.”
