Projective Group has promoted Robert-Jan Wekking to partner in its Dutch business.

The freshly appointed partner has been with Projective Group since 2011, including over a dozen years with a company the firm acquired around two years ago. At Projective Group, Wekking leads the Payments practice across its offices.

“My story with Projective Group started two years ago, when Enigma Consulting [a boutique payments consultancy] was acquired. Before that, I spent 15 years working in payments in industry and with Dutch and international banks.”

Wekking brings more than 25 years of experience in payments, treasury, and risk management to the partnership. He has worked in both the B2B and B2C domain.

He has been responsible for, among other things, setting up the worldwide payment system for ABN Amro and RBS, the setup of corporate treasury management at banks, the implementation of complex change programs in the payment ecosystem, and the roll out of (then) pioneering payments systems such as SEPA, iDIN and Instant Payments.

“Being a consultant was already an ambition during my studies, as I liked to work in complex environments with diversity of assignments and clients. At Projective Group, I have the opportunity to work on complex engagements with very talented people, international teams, and different cultures.”

At the helm of the firm’s Payments practice, Wekking said his goal is to get Projective Group recognised as one of the best payments consulting firms in Europe. The company has to one measure already achieved that in its home market Belgium and in the Netherlands, but still faces several steps that need to be taken in other markets such as the UK, Germany, and France.

In chasing its north star, Wekking said that Projective Group benefits from its dedicated industry focus on financial services, while at the same time being able to offer a broad and more rounded service.

“I strongly believe that we are able to support our clients even better by not only having payments expertise in-house, but also risk and compliance, data, talent development and project management. This enables us to provide our clients with the full range of expertise needed to run complex payments programs like the replacement of the core banking infrastructure or implementation of a new card scheme.”
