Oliver Wyman has launched a Government & Public Institutions practice in Australia and New Zealand, backed by the establishment of a new office in Canberra.

The new practice sees Oliver Wyman expand its focus in the ANZ market to also include the public sector, alongside its existing industry practices covering financial services, energy, private capital, transportation, and telecommunications.

Jacob Hook, Managing Partner for Asia Pacific at Oliver Wyman, said the strategic move complements the firm’s capabilities and signals its growth ambition in the local market, with the firm already 50% bigger than it was three years ago and working towards its stated ambition of gaining further ground.

“We have been intentional in diversifying our service offering, expanding our capabilities, and growing our presence across Australia,”

Hook said.

The new Government & Public Institutions practice will support government organizations with their strategic, transformative and capability building endeavors.

The wing is led by James Twaddle, partner and practice leader, and Michael Thompson and Rony Azzi, both partners. All three have been hired from Strategy&, with other more junior team members also crossing in their footsteps.

“There’s an increasing demand for quality of work and value for money in the Australian public sector market, which plays well to Oliver Wyman’s approaches and strengths,”

said Hook.

“We are excited to have James, Michael, and Rony joining Oliver Wyman for their next challenge.”

Twaddle added:

“The government has been clear that they are looking for consulting expertise that helps solve big challenges and build capability. Oliver Wyman’s specialist-focused approach and values are well suited to the government’s changing demands.”

“Oliver Wyman is able to advise governments grappling with a range of issues, from strategy to governance to helping with key functional agendas. We also understand that long-term value will only be delivered if knowledge and capability building are key parts of our engagements with clients.”

Oliver Wyman currently has over 20 partners and a team of consultants working across Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Canberra offices. Globally, the firm has over 7,000 professionals around the world.
