Oliver Wyman, a global leader in management consulting and a business of Marsh McLennan (NYSE:MMC), announced the appointment of Jim Murphy as Senior Advisor. Mr. Murphy, former Under Treasurer of Queensland Treasury, will work closely with the Oliver Wyman team in Australia to provide specialized expertise to solve complex government and public sector problems.
“We're delighted to welcome Jim to Oliver Wyman as a Senior Advisor,“ said Ed Emanuel, Oliver Wyman’s Market Leader for Australia and New Zealand. “With extensive experience in both senior levels of government and the private sector, he is an excellent addition to our government and public sector team.”
“The Australian governments are changing how they work with consultants, and Oliver Wyman can be a part of the evolution of how the government uses consultants to create stronger institutions. We’re excited for him to bring his experience to our specialist-focused approach and values,” he added.
“I welcome the opportunity to join a well-regarded institution with quality people,” said Mr. Murphy. “As Oliver Wyman continues to expand and diversify their service offerings into Government and Public Institutions, I look forward to using my experience in public policy to address the challenges these organizations face.”
Prior to Oliver Wyman, Mr. Murphy served as Deputy Secretary in the Australian Treasury for over a decade and held senior roles in the Commonwealth Departments of Treasury, Attorney General, and Finance. His distinguished career includes a role as an advisor with the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister and Queensland Premier’s office. He was awarded a Public Service Medal for his strategic economic advice, which formed the Australian Government’s response to the 2008 global financial crisis. He was also a senior executive with the ANZ Bank.
Mr. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and History) from the University of New South Wales, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Public Law from the Australian National University.
This latest move in Australia follows Oliver Wyman’s acquisition of Azure Consulting and the launch of its Government and Public Institutions in the country.
