With the Middle East’s consulting industry undergoing rapid growth and offering unique opportunities to make an impact, the region is becoming a magnet for international consulting groups. PMP Strategy is the latest in a string of tier-one firms to enter the region.

Founded 20 years ago in France, PMP Strategy is a strategy and management consulting firm that specialises in strategic and organisational work across sectors including financial services, energy, mobility, telecom, and transport.

After spending its first decade focused on its home market and allied Francophone markets such as North Africa, Canada and Belgium, in its second decade PMP Strategy embarked on an internationalisation campaign. Following the launch of new operations in the UK, the US, Luxembourg, and Spain, the Middle East is now the next in line.

The President and Managing Director of PMP Strategy, Gilles Vaqué, said that expansion into the “bustling Middle East region” comes in response to growing demand from its clients for on-the-ground support – and the prospect of tapping into thriving opportunities.

“The surge in investments in Middle East sectors where PMP Strategy excels in – such as renewable energies, transport, mobility, agriculture, telecom, technology, and financial services – made it a logical decision to enter the landscape and cement our presence,” he added.

While the total size of the Middle East’s consulting landscape is still relatively small on the global stage (estimated to be between 3% and 4% of global spending on consultants), a rapidly growing market and the prospect of working on ground-breaking transformation programs (most notably Vision 2030 agenda’s) is catching the eyes of most globally operating players.

The likes of the Big Four and the MBB (McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Company) have been active in the region for decades, yet according to Consultancy.org’s database, 30+ foreign-headquartered tier-one and tier-two consultancies have entered the market in the past two years alone.

Meanwhile, homegrown competition is growing as well, in particular in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

At PMP Strategy, which has 150+ consultants firm-wide, the firm’s leaders are confident that they will be able to successfully emulate their global standing in the local market. “With our offices in Dubai and Casablanca, we are well-positioned to support all our clients’ activities across the region,” said Vaqué.

In April, another French-origin consultancy landed in the Middle East, when Segula Technologies picked Abu Dhabi as its launchpad. The largest French-origin firms active in the region include Capgemini, Atos, and Sia Partners.
