FTI Consulting has strengthened its Strategic Communications division in Spain with Ali Karami Ruiz (Senior Managing Director) and Leonor Díaz-Córdova (Managing Director).

Karami Ruiz is part of FTI Consulting’s Public Affairs practice, which helps companies engage with multilateral policy and politics that are being shaped by intergovernmental organisations such as the OECD, the UN and its specialised agencies like the World Health Organisation, the G20, the World Trade Organisation and the World Bank.

Ruiz specialises in policy communications, public affairs and government relations. While based out of Barcelona, he serves FTI Consulting’s clients in Spain and across Europe.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Karami Ruiz was Senior Director for Strategic Engagement & Communications and a Member of the Executive Committee at Business at the OECD. In the role, he defended complex industry interests in strategic policy deliberations with government officials, including ministers from more than 50 countries. His experience covers industries such as pharmaceutical, food and beverage, technology, and consumer.

“Business is increasingly seeking to complement efforts at a national level by engaging with multilateral organisations. It’s great to be able to build on our advanced government affairs platform with Ali’s arrival,” said Julia Harrison, Global Head of Public Affairs at FTI Consulting.

Karami Ruiz said: “FTI Consulting has a unique mix of strategic counsel and public affairs expertise that will enable clients to secure long-term objectives and strengthen their foresight and response capacities to geopolitical challenges . I am delighted to join the firm.”

Based in Madrid, Díaz-Córdova brings almost two decades of experience in international dispute resolution to her role at FTI Consulting, having worked at leading law firms, international institutions and public affairs agencies in New York, Geneva, London and Madrid.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Díaz-Córdova was Group Director of Legal Services at CT Group, a research, intelligence, campaign and advisory consultancy. She previously held senior positions at the London Court of International Arbitration, where she worked on arbitration cases across a variety of sectors.

In her new role, Díaz-Córdova will help law firms, litigation funders and corporate clients implement communications strategies to resolve international disputes.

“Dispute advisory services is an important capability in our offering, and Leonor joins our team at a time when we are seeing a growing demand from businesses across a number of sectors,” said Juan Rivera, a Senior Managing Director and Head of the Strategic Communications division in Spain at FTI Consulting.

Commenting on her appointment, Díaz-Córdova said, “High-stakes litigation and arbitration increasingly require a strategic and innovative approach at every stage of the proceedings to ensure a successful outcome. FTI Consulting has impressive and accomplished teams of litigation consulting experts, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues to help clients successfully navigate their most complex matters.”
