Consulting veteran Vanessa Matthijssen has joined Deloitte Australia’s national executive alongside a number of other senior leadership promotions, with two office managing partner roles opening up.
Professional services firm Deloitte has made a number of senior leadership appointments in various roles across the country: Vanessa Matthijssen has joined the executive as Industries leader; Deloitte’s Canberra office managing partner Phillip Roberts has added the role of national clients lead; and Steven Hallam takes over as Melbourne consulting lead.
Meanwhile, Western Australia office managing partner Michael McNulty is due to step down.
Vanessa Matthijssen has been with Deloitte for the past twenty years after joining from Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in 2003. Based out of Sydney, Matthijssen serves as a senior strategy partner for Monitor Deloitte with a keen interest in transformation across the food chain, including as the lead author of Deloitte’s Future of Food series.
Now a member of the national executive as Industries lead, Matthijssen will be responsible for go-to-market.
In a post to LinkedIn, Matthijssen noted she will be working closely on driving growth with recently appointed Clients & Industries managing partner Paul Rehder, who took over from chief commercial officer Pete Forrester. She also gave a shout out to the well-balanced Deloitte executive, which further includes managing partners and chiefs Ellen Derrick (consulting), Clare Harding (strategy), Sneza Pelusi (risk) Joanne Gorton (audit & assurance) and Pip Dexter (talent & diversity).
Pushing three decades at the firm, Phillip Roberts has over the past five years served as Canberra office managing partner and lead partner of Deloitte’s Defence practice. Roberts now takes up the role of National Clients Leader, for which he’ll vacate the Canberra managing partner seat.
A finance and accounting professional, Roberts has most recently been working with federal government stakeholders and departments on complex budget and financial advisory matters.
Steven Hallam kicked off his career in the field of engineering before joining Deloitte Digital predecessor the Eclipse Group in 2004. Less than six years later and Hallam was the lead partner for Deloitte Digital in Melbourne, before being appointed to the national lead role in 2017 and then as Deloitte Digital’s global strategy leader.
Since mid 2021, Hallam has served as Deloitte’s Enterprise Technology & Performance lead partner, and will now head up Deloitte Consulting in Melbourne.
In addition to Deloitte’s Canberra office, West Australia will soon have a new office managing partner with Michael McNulty to step down in May after a decade in the role, although he will remain with the firm.
A Deloitte Australia board member, McNulty has been with the firm for over twenty years in a variety of consulting leadership roles after previously serving as a partner at Arthur Andersen, and has received wide praise for his legacy on LinkedIn following his announcement to step down.
