AlixPartners, the global consulting firm, announced that it has expanded its Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice in the Japanese market. Along with the expansion of this practice area, we announced that Joji Hattori has joined as Partner & Managing Director and Tetsuya Kimura has joined as Partner in the firm’s Tokyo office. Joji and Tetsuya will focus on clients across a broad range of industries, with specialization in the pharmaceuticals and medtech sectors. Both have a strong track record in consulting firms and a wealth of management experience in healthcare and life science companies.

Joji has a total of 27 years of professional experience at Fortune Global 500 companies (Itochu Corporation, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited) and global consulting firms (Kearney, Roland Berger, EY), providing a variety of consulting services that contribute to strengthening the competitiveness and increasing the corporate value of companies that operate globally, with a focus on the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

Joji joins AlixPartners from EY, where he had a leadership role in Business Transformation competency. At Takeda Pharmaceuticals, he worked on company-wide transformation projects as a Senior Director of Corporate Strategy. At Roland Berger in Germany and China, he provided local management supports for the global operations of Japanese companies and led the company’s life sciences industry practice in Japan. In addition, Joji has held strategic advisory roles at several bio-tech startups of its founders from Stanford University School of Medicine. He has a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences from Hitotsubashi University.


Tetsuya Kimura, Partner
Pharmaceutical industry, medical device industry, and private equity industry

Tetsuya has 20 years of experience as a management consultant, business leader, and private-equity (PE) investment professional, having supported and led companywide transformation, business growth, turnarounds, and M&A to improve profitability and value up. Tetsuya has helped major companies in the telecom, healthcare, retail, financial, and PE industries develop business strategies, grow their businesses, and conduct turnarounds. His expertise includes M&A and post-merger integration (PMI), sales force enhancement, productivity improvement, and labor cost reduction in the PE, telecom, technology, service, and healthcare industries. Previously, he was with a Japanese midcap PE firm as a deal member; he completed four deals; and he led PMI and value-up activities as interim chief financial officer/chief strategic officer (CFO/CSO) of the portfolio company.​ Tetsuya has a Bachelor of Arts in social psychology from the University of Tokyo.
