Global management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group has made a high-profile hire in Germany, welcoming Axel Weber – the former president of the country’s central bank and UBS chairman – to its ranks.
Appointed a senior advisor, Weber will bring a “wealth of experience from his academic, regulatory, central banking and business career” to the firm, said Boston Consulting Group’s CEO Christoph Schweizer on his LinkedIn page.
In his role, Weber will advise BCG’s clients in the financial services and particularly banking landscape, and advise the firm’s global financial services practice on key topics and offerings. Weber is based out of Germany.
According to reporting by Swiss business outlet Bilanz, Weber will spend “between 20% and 30%” of his time serving Boston Consulting Group. In his other time, he served as chairman of two research institutions in Germany, and holds non-executive director and supervisory roles.
Weber’s career saw him lead Swiss banking giant UBS for a decade, taking up the role as chairman in 2012 until stepping down in April last year after reaching the maximum terms in office (he was succeeded by former Morgan Stanley banker Colm Kelleher). Before that, he served as President of the Deutsche Bundesbank – Europe’s most influential central bank – from 2004 to 2011.
“Axel's experience and insights will be a fantastic addition to our world-class banking and financial institutions team,” concluded Schweizer.
As part of his affiliation with Boston Consulting Group, Weber last month joined the company’s delegation at the World Economic Forum – one of the world’s top events for leaders in business and politics.
