Another cohort of senior professionals has joined the burgeoning Australian practice of Alvarez & Marsal.

Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal continues to stock its growing Australian offices with established professionals, including Matthew King as its latest transaction advisory senior director in Melbourne together with recently appointed directors Kelly Low and Greg Knowles of Sydney and Melbourne.

Peter Siwek has meanwhile been promoted to director in Perth, while Adam Civin takes on a regional head of legal role for Australasia.

Matthew King

As the latest senior recruit to Alvarez & Marsal’s recently launched transaction advisory practice, King brings a further decade and a half of international industry experience, amassed at Ernst & Young in Australia, and the US. Following earlier stints with the Big Four firm in New York and Sydney, King crosses to Alvarez & Marsal in Melbourne from his most recent role as a strategy & transactions managing director in EY’s office in San Francisco.

In welcoming King to the firm, Alvarez & Marsal noted his extensive cross-border deal experience and accounting expertise in advising clients across a range of sectors including technology, industrials, consumer, and materials. “Matt has proven experience combining a financial diligence mindset with fact-based data analysis techniques to assess financial information integrity, perform KPI diligence and translate complex data into meaningful insights.”

Kelly Low

Described as a “star in the making” by Alvarez & Marsal managing director and industry veteran Steven Shirtliff, Low joins the transactions team as a director in Sydney after spending the past eighteen months as CFO of local fintech Paylab.

Prior to that, Low was and associate director at KPMG and a corporate finance director with FTI Consulting in London for five years, having originally kicked off her career as an accountant with Ernst & Young in Johannesburg and later Melbourne.

Greg Knowles

Also joining Alvarez & Marsal’s transactions practice as a director is David Knowles, who follows the group’s senior leadership including analytics head George Collins in crossing from KPMG. Prior to his two years as a director at the Big Four, Knowles spent the best part of a decade between BDO’s branches in Melbourne and the UK, joining the latter as an auditor in Nottingham before transferring to Australia in 2016.

Peter Siwek

Peter Siwek has meanwhile been promoted to director level in Perth after joining Alvarez & Marsal’s performance improvement practice from Partners in Performance at the end of last year.

Starting his career as a technical engineer and project manager in the energy sector, Siwek first entered the advisory realm as a senior strategy consultant with Monitor Deloitte, followed by two years in the firm’s transformation & operations team with a focus on the heavy industries.

Adam Civin

In addition to its new practice directors, Alvarez & Marsal has appointed Adam Civin as regional head of legal for Australasia. A law graduate from the University of Pretoria, Civin crosses to Alvarez & Marsal in Sydney after three years as a senior legal counsel at leading BNPL player Zip Co, before which he was an assistant director at Ernst & Young – having originally joined the firm’s legal department in South Africa in 2015.
