KPMG has brought in financial services executive Damian Grice as its new Chief Operating Officer for the Lower Gulf.

In his new role, Grice is a partner and oversees all operations of KPMG Lower Gulf, which stretches across the United Arab Emirate and Oman region. He becomes a member of the firm’s 8-strong leadership team, which is headed by Chief Executive Officer, Emilio Pera.

Grice brings a wealth of experience in leadership to the firm, gained across his 22 years in professional services and financial services. He has been based in the UAE since 2013, holding several Chief Operating Officer roles at financial institutions including Barclays and First Abu Dhabi Bank.

Prior to joining KPMG, Grice was Chief Operating Officer at Greenstone Equity Partners, one of the largest fund managers in the region.

Before moving to the UAE, Grice held leadership positions at Barclays in London, among others serving as Chief of Staff for the Global COO and Global Head of Innovation for the Corporate Bank. His earlier career was shaped at consultancies – he worked at PwC in the United Kingdom and as an internal consultant at the Queensland Government in Australia.

“We are delighted to welcome Damian to the KPMG leadership team,” said Pera. “His extensive local and international experience, combined with his deep understanding of operational excellence and transformation, will undoubtedly further elevate our capabilities in the region.”

Grice stated: “I am excited to join KPMG. The firm’s commitment to excellence and strong reputation for driving sustainable transformative change for both our clients and colleagues, especially in the year of COP28, make for an exciting journey ahead.”

The appointment comes after a series of high-profile additions to KPMG’s senior leadership team in the Lower Gulf, and at a time the firm commemorates 50 years of doing business in the UAE.
