McKinsey & Company has acquired Caserta, a New York-based data analytics consulting and implementation firm.
Founded in 2001 by Joe Caserta, the firm works with Fortune 100 companies to roadmap, design, and implement cutting-edge data architectures. Caserta’s recent engagements include helping a music streaming services client build out the cloud platform crucial to its operations and helping a financial services client launch a new business offering data and analytics software.
McKinsey’s acquisition of the firm will strengthen its data transformation practice’s ability to implement cloud data architectures at enterprise scale. The move will add nearly 50 data engineers, architects, and strategists – including founder Joe Caserta.
A renowned figure in data engineering, Caserta has more than 30 years of experience in the area. He is the co-author of “The Data Warehouse ETL Toolkit,” the standard text on preparing data integration for analytics.
Prior to founding his company, Caserta was a senior business intelligence consultant at Vision Associates and a data warehouse consultant at Linc Systems. He has a bachelor’s degree in database application development and design from Columbia University.
“Data is integral to every transformation that’s happening across sectors and geographies in the next three to five years,” said Kayvaun Rowshankish, McKinsey senior partner and global co-leader of the firm’s data transformation practice. “The combination of McKinsey and Caserta will position us to play a pivotal role in moving industries to the next stage of technology transformation.”
McKinsey’s relationship with Caserta began over a decade ago when the data consultancy helped build the global management consulting firm’s internal knowledge management platform. In subsequent years, the two companies collaborated on several client projects.
“Unlike a lot of other data engineering shops, which tend to want to build code and get out, Caserta is more focused on long-term impact,” Rowshankish added. “This is consistent with our values, which makes it an undisputable fit.”
Commenting on joining the Big Three strategy firm, Caserta said, “I am very excited to apply our joint efforts to creatively and deliberately improve lives and businesses around the world.”
The Caserta deal is McKinsey’s fourth acquisition in 2022. The firm earlier this year bought S4G, a Spanish Salesforce consultancy; IncepTech, a Hungarian company that develops digital products and businesses; and Lobo, an Argentina-based digital agency.
