Management consultancy Oliver Wyman has acquired a minority stake in Blue Orange Digital, a New York-based data science consulting firm.

“We have worked with Blue Orange Digital on several projects and have been very impressed with their technical abilities," said Vivek Sen, a partner with Oliver Wyman and Americas head of digital. "Our Digital practice is rapidly growing and investing in Blue Orange Digital will allow us to help our clients optimize and automate their businesses faster and more efficiently."

As part of the deal Blue Orange’s expertise will be integrated into Oliver Wyman’s projects providing enhanced data transformation for clients. The two consultancies will work together to help clients advance data governance, update legacy systems, improve backend performance, and leverage advanced analytics and insights.

Blue Orange was founded in 2015 and provides services in data transformation (data lake warehousing, unification, and enrichment); data visualization and integration (dashboards, app integration, and business intelligence implementation); and machine learning and data science (optimization modelling, recommenders, and information extraction). The firm leverages managed cloud data pipeline tools from AWS, Azure, and Snowflake.

Blue Orange’s more than 50 professionals support clients in a range of industries, including financial services, healthcare, energy, agriculture, and construction.

Josh Miramant, CEO and founder of Blue Orange Digital, said, "Oliver Wyman is a leader in the consulting world and we are proud to partner with them and help deliver data science solutions to their clients."

Oliver Wyman has made several strategic investments in the last six months. The New York-based consultancy earlier this month agreed to acquire Booz Allen Hamilton’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region management consulting practice. Oliver Wyman also recently acquired Huron’s life sciences strategy practice and Azure Consulting, an Australian boutique management consultancy.

The firm has more than 5,000 global employees who deliver consulting services in strategy, operations, risk management, and organization transformation.
