The International Olympics Committee has signed up Deloitte as a top-tier sponsor and partner, with the Big Four firm to provide strategic and digital consulting support.
The global professional services firm has signed a decade-long partnership agreement with the Olympics at the highest level, extending through to the 2032 Brisbane Games.
As a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, Deloitte will support the International Olympic Committee with strategy, management and digital consulting services through a global team, with a particular focus on the IOC’s digital strategy and transformation.
Other areas flagged under the agreement include work on sustainability, corporate governance, and diversity & inclusion, along with athlete support and mental health – which form part of the IoC’s five-year strategic roadmap to 2025. Deloitte will also establish a dedicated “Centre of Excellence”, helping to enshrine best practices in administration and management operations for participating national Olympic committees.
“We are delighted to be working with Deloitte and excited by the opportunity this partnership presents for the entire Olympic movement,” said IOC President Thomas Bach, whose term will end in 2025. “Deloitte’s initiatives to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals align with the IOC’s philosophy of further change and transformation as expressed in the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020+5 strategic roadmap for the future.”
The partnership covers the span of five summer and winter games, starting with Paris in 2024 and further including the winter games in Milano Cortina in 2026, Los Angeles in 2028, the 2030 winter games at an as yet decided location, and finally Brisbane in 2032. A previous report from KPMG in support of Brisbane’s bid pegged the economic value of the games to be worth potentially $17.6 billion to Australia over a period of twenty years.
While this is the firm’s first global partnership with the IOC, Deloitte has been involved with the Olympics in various capacities for a number of years, including as a sponsor of Team USA athletes and as the official professional services provider to both Los Angeles 2028 and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The firm also has a relationship with the national Olympic committees of Canada, Germany, Poland and Ireland.
Along with names synonymous with the Olympics, such as Visa, Coca Cola and Omega, Deloitte is the second consulting firm to feature as top-flight partner, with French IT advisory Atos having supported technological developments at the Olympics since 2001. Deloitte too will be advising on areas such as personalising the fan experience and enhancing digital services to better connect fans, athletes, and supporters from around the world.
“We are living through one of the most consequential moments in history,” said Deloitte’s global CEO Punit Renjen. “The Olympic movement plays a vital role in uniting the world through friendship, solidarity and fair play, and never has this been more important than now. Together, Deloitte and the IOC aspire to make an impact that matters – to strengthen, enhance and create a long-lasting and positive impact on society.”
