Alvarez & Marsal has hired Richard Bergin, PhD, as a managing director and co-leader of its economic consulting team in North America. He joins the management consulting firm’s Boston office.
Bergin brings more than 20 years of experience advising on forensic financial and economic analysis, economic damages, loss causation, market power, structured finance, and valuation of investments. He has testified as an expert witness in trial, arbitration, international arbitration, and before government agencies – working on cases related to monopolization, collusion, IP theft, fraud, and market manipulation.
Bergin joins Alvarez & Marsal from rival firm AlixPartners, where he spent the last five years as a managing director in the economics practice. Before that, he spent over four years at KPMG, where he was a principal focusing on economic and financial analyses for companies facing disputes and investigations.
Earlier in his career, Bergin was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company, where he led teams in the delivery of strategy and operations consulting services.
He holds doctorate and master’s degrees in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia.
“Navigating the current geopolitical landscape has become more difficult for companies and investors,” said Jerry Dent, managing director and North American practice leader of disputes and investigations at Alvarez & Marsal. “Increased regulatory scrutiny across regions and industries only adds to this complexity. Richard’s in-depth economic knowledge, coupled with his range of industry sector experience, furthers our ability to maximize value for clients.”
Headquartered in New York, Alvarez & Marsal has over 6,000 people across four continents providing advisory, business performance improvement, and turnaround consulting services.
