Crowell & Moring, a Washington, DC-based law firm, has launched healthcare consulting practice Crowell Health Solutions.

The new practice will focus on helping healthcare clients drive digital innovation initiatives and value-based care models. The practice’s offerings include strategic counseling, policy counseling and engagement, compliance counseling, and coalition building.

Crowell Health Solutions will be headed by a trio of lawyers with senior government and health industry experience: Jodi Daniel, former director of the office of policy in the office of the national coordinator for health IT at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Troy Barsky, former director of the division of technical payment policy at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS); and Janet Walker, former lead in-house counsel for value-based care at Ascension, the second largest health system in the United States.

“There is a large-scale shift in investment and adoption of digital health technologies, leveraging artificial intelligence, supporting telehealth and virtual care, and engaging patients,” said Daniel. “Crowell Health Solutions partners with innovative companies to support their strategic initiatives, develop effective go-to-market strategies, and help them navigate a fast-changing, and often unclear, policy landscape by providing unparalleled insight and forward-thinking solutions based on our experience and deep understanding of policy and the market.”

The consulting firm launch is part of Crowell’s efforts to provide an end-to-end professional services offering for the health sector. It joins the law firm’s wider healthcare platform, which includes its healthcare group which provides legal counsel in regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters; its federal lobbying practice; and Crowell & Moring International, its global public policy and regulatory affairs affiliate advising life sciences companies on matters in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

“We can really move the needle for clients because we are able to not only translate the technical regulations that come out of the government, but also drive specific policy changes that will ensure that the regulatory environment keeps pace with patient-focused innovations such as value-based care,” said Barsky. "One of the most important things we can do for clients is serve as a connector to other key players in the industry, build coalitions to help drive policy changes, and advise on partnerships with the government.”

Crowell & Moring is an international law firm with more than 550 lawyers globally. The firm works with Fortune 500s on litigation and government-facing matters.

Law firm Manatt also has a comprehensive health solutions practice with offerings in legal, management, and technology advisory.
