Australia may be the world’s fourth largest consulting market, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to break into. Three home-grown firms have recently celebrated milestones at various stages of their journeys.
Two Australian management consultancies have recently celebrated anniversaries, with Melbourne-headquartered Levant Consulting hitting the one-decade mark and Canberra-based advisory Bardach Consulting turning one.
Another home-grown management consultancy, Sydney-headquartered Seven Consulting, also celebrated a significant milestone this year, marking twenty years in business in May.
Seven Consulting
Seven Consulting may be a familiar name to even those outside of the business world as a naming rights partner of the Australian women’s national basketball team, the firm having also backed the Matildas since 2017. Established by one-time PwC systems audit manager Declan Boylan in Sydney in 2002 and since expanding to Melbourne and Manila, Seven Consulting today has a headcount in excess of 120 employees.
Currently in the process of building up a change management practice, Seven Consulting offer a wide variety of services covering the gamut of program delivery and project management office (PMO) needs, with a client roster featuring many of Australia’s most well-known organisations, such as the Commonwealth Bank, Optus, Woolworths, QBE and AMP among many more. The firm sites a 99 percent client satisfaction rate.
“Surreal to celebrate our 20th anniversary with staff in Sydney, Melbourne and Manila over the last month,” Boyle said during the firm’s celebrations. “When I/we started on a floor of an apartment in Rozelle and then moved on to an attic in Drummoyne (with a desk and chair!), it seemed a long way to having seven staff, never mind running over $4 billion of programs annually for some of Australia’s best organisations.”
Levant Consulting
Over the course of ten years, Levant Consulting has grown from an initial team of three to more than 20 consultants across Sydney, Melbourne and most recently Canberra. Established by former Deloitte human capital consulting director Fadi Zeitoune in 2012, Levant focusses on the “people elements” of business and digital transformation, with offerings centred around change management and operating model and organisational design.
“I felt there was an opportunity in the market for clients that were more interested in engaging with a person than buying a brand,” Zeitoune said in reflection on the milestone. “Clients who wanted to work with great, outcomes-focused people and were happy to go with a smaller firm to do that. That’s been our proposition to the market from the very beginning. On a personal level, I wanted to create an environment I loved working in every day.”
Bardach Consulting
Turning one last month, the emerging consultancy is based in Canberra and led by directors Angus McKerchar, Tim Arnold, and Patrick McCann – all former senior principals at public sector advisory Callida Consulting (which incidentally hit ten years of operations early this year). Strategy, operational improvement, business finance management, and project, program and change management are among the firm’s areas of expertise.
Taking to LinkedIn to celebrate the company milestone, Bardach promised more exciting developments to come, and gave thanks to its colleagues and clients, the latter which to date have included among others the Australian Federal Police, Australian Border Force, Sports Australia, and several federal government departments such as the health department, defence, and the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.
