Global consulting firm Simon-Kucher & Partners has expanded into South Africa with the launch of a new office in Johannesburg.

The new office is Simon-Kucher’s first in Africa’s southern hemisphere and second in the continent. Globally the firm has 40+ offices.

Peter Hoijtink, managing partner of the new operation, said that Simon-Kucher’s entry into South Africa comes in response to strong demand for commercial strategy and pricing expertise. “As a global leader in sales & marketing consulting and pricing strategy, we are ideally positioned to help companies in Africa with improving their top-line results.”

For Hoijtink, the move marks his return to familiar terrain. He previously spent five years in South Africa with PwC, leading its strategy & operations consulting offering to clients in the retail and consumer industry, and co-leading the expansion of its strategic consulting subsidiary Strategy& (formerly Booz & Company) into the market.

A specialist in strategy, marketing, pricing and sales, the Dutchman Hoijtink spent the past five years with Strategy& and PwC in the Netherlands, most recently as a partner and national leader of the Big Four firm’s Consumer Markets industry vertical. Earlier in his career he gained experience at Unilever, among others.

“From our base in Johannesburg, we will help companies in the region – or international groups eyeing a foray into the market – with growing faster and improving their profitability,” said Hoijtink.

The move comes at a time of rapid growth for Simon-Kucher & Partners. In 2021, the Germany-headquartered group banked revenues of €442 million – on the back of massive 22% growth.

Globally, Simon-Kucher & Partners has a team of more than 2,000 consultants and staff in 27 countries.
