FTI Consulting has appointed Miriam Wrobel as global leader of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and sustainability offering.

Wrobel in 2021 joined FTI’s San Francisco office as a senior managing director focusing on ESG and energy transition strategy, transaction structuring, and due diligence. She has more than 20 years of experience in ESG strategy, sustainable energy development, and real estate investment.

Wrobel will now lead a global team that unites the firm’s ESG and sustainability expertise across the areas of risk and investigations, compliance, finance, transactions, due diligence, data and analytics, economic consulting and modeling, cybersecurity, and communications.

Demand for ESG consulting has been growing as customers, employees, shareholders, and governments increasingly ask for progress and accountability on corporate ESG programs. According to a January 2022 FTI survey of 2,000 large companies, 66% of respondents said they don’t have sufficient expertise to deal with increasing scrutiny.

“ESG and sustainability-driven demands are dynamic and evolving. As a trusted advisor to the world’s leading law firms, corporations, financial institutions, and private equity firms, FTI Consulting is called upon to help clients manage risk and opportunities,” said Steven Gunby, president and CEO of FTI Consulting. “Miriam and our expert-led team will bring the full scope of our differentiated offering to clients to support them across their ESG programs.”

Prior to joining FTI, Wrobel previously ran her own consulting firm for nearly seven years, providing strategic advice on financing renewable, energy efficiency, storage, transportation, and microgrid projects. Before that, she spent more than three years as a director at Citigroup, where she was the primary relationship manager for renewable energy and energy efficiency developers within the investment bank’s municipal securities division.

Wrobel was also previously a director at Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a global developer of renewable energy solutions, where she negotiated power purchase agreements, site lease agreements, and engineering procurement and construction contracts for solar projects worth approximately $60 million. Earlier in her career, Wrobel was an associate in the real estate acquisitions group at JPMorgan Asset Management.

She holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Stanford University.
