Jacky Wright, chief digital officer of Microsoft US, will join McKinsey & Company later this year as its first chief technology and platform officer.
Wright brings more than two decades of technology leadership experience to McKinsey, where she will lead the global consulting firm’s internal technology team. Wright will help the company further leverage technology in its client work and innovate new platforms for client transformation.
“We are delighted to welcome Jacky to our firm. Working with our amazing team, Jacky will strengthen how we use technology both to help clients scale new ideas and tackle challenges, and to transform the way our more than 40,000 people work together across our global firm,” said global managing partner Bob Sternfels. “She joins a team of leaders who have been focused on accelerating sustainable and inclusive growth in our client work, and setting the standard for our profession in how we manage ourselves as a firm.”
Wright most recently spent 10 years at Microsoft US, where she serves as chief digital officer and corporate vice president. Before that, she was VP of IT strategic services.
Wright also completed a two-year secondment between 2017 and 2019 as chief digital information officer of HMRC, the British government’s tax department. Before joining Microsoft, Wright held chief information officer roles at BP and within the advanced materials and GSS industrial divisions of GE.
Wright began her career at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) where she was a senior manager.
She has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and accounting from Baruch College, where she is currently a member of the advisory board for the university’s information systems and statistics department. Wright was named the UK’s most powerful Black Briton in the Powerlist 2022, and has been recognized as one of the Top 100 BAME Leaders in Business, the Top 100 BAME Leaders in Tech, and was on Savoy Magazine’s Top Women list.
“I look forward to partnering with my new colleagues to help the firm accelerate our internal rate of innovation, and support McKinsey’s clients in building and sustaining the capabilities to succeed in today’s economy,” Wright said.
The news follows other recent senior hires at the New York-headquartered management consulting firm, including: Aaron Gagnon, who joined as chief audit officer this year after serving as Apple’s chief audit executive; Daniel Trujillo, who joined in 2021 from Walmart as McKinsey’s chief ethics and compliance officer; and Danielle Burr, who joined in 2021 from Uber to lead public affairs.
