Project Management Institute has agreed on a partnership with Deloitte Consulting, with the aim of maturing the level of project management expertise across Southeast Asia.

With any change or innovation – from the construction of new infrastructure to the development of a new product – comes project management in some form or another, making the field one of the most important business disciplines around. Project Management Institute is the globe’s leading professional body for project management professionals and has as its mission to advance the profession and empower individuals to master the field.

“We have always been committed to enabling professionals to advance careers, strengthen organisational success, and enable changemakers with new skills and ways of working to maximise their impact,” explained Ben Breen, Managing Director Asia Pacific at Project Management Institute.

In a bid to expand its impact in the Southeast Asia (SEA) area, notably in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, Project Management Institute has turned to Deloitte Consulting – the consulting arm of professional services giant Deloitte – for support.

As part of the collaboration, Project Management Institute and the consulting firm will team up on a range of different joint initiatives, including internships, mentorships, competitions, hackathons and conferences – all with the aim of preparing organisations and people “to work smarter and more effectively,” said Breen.

Deloitte will embed Project Management Institute’s best practices into its offerings, and unlock the power of its vast client network in the region to lift capabilities not just internally within its own ranks, but also externally.

Eugene Ho, Regional Managing Director of Deloitte Consulting Southeast Asia said: “Our project management capabilities are fundamental for our business and enable us to successfully deliver value to our clients. This collaboration with Project Management Institute demonstrates the industry-wide recognition that Deloitte is the market leader in project management.”

“We are excited to work together with Project Management Institute to share knowledge and industry best practices through networking activities and learning opportunities, and build more project management capability in the local markets.”

Highlighting the need for such skills, according to one estimate, close to two million project management-related roles will need to be filled in Asia Pacific over the next decade.
