Consulting, legal and commercial advisory Proximity has picked up fellow Canberra-based company Alliance Consulting Group for an undisclosed sum. Together with their full team, Alliance Consulting owners Peter Bell and Jenifer Frederick have crossed to Proximity as of the beginning of the month, swelling Proximity’s headcount out to more than 100 across offices in Adelaide, Sydney Melbourne, and Canberra.

“Combining our existing capabilities and expertise with Proximity will improve our ability to deliver consulting and commercial solutions to a wider audience and increase our reach to help clients overcome challenges,” said Bell. “We feel strongly that Alliance’s practical approach to solving challenges with great advisors who genuinely care about helping their clients is strongly aligned with Proximity’s approach.

Founded in Canberra a quarter of a century ago and with clients on both sides of the Tasman, Alliance Consulting specialises in government sector procurement and management consulting – drawing on the extensive public sector backgrounds of its team. Bell for example, prior to forming Alliance in 1996, spent over a decade in various ACT government departments, including in an ICT advisory role with the Chief Minister’s office.

Meanwhile, Proximity was founded in 2011 by Sean King and James Dunn, former senior associates at international law firm DLA, with a view to serving the government and regulated industry sectors. The firm’s consulting lines include governance, work health & safety, and digital, data & cybersecurity, with specialists in project management, consulting, law, procurement, governance, technology and commercial.

“We are deeply committed to building our integrated service offering and multidisciplinary team. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to meet rising client demands for this approach,” commented Dunn, who serves as Proximity director.

“We are excited about this step forward and we are confident this exciting milestone in our 10th year of business will enable our people, clients, and communities to go further.”
