The Digital Transformation Agency has this year handed contracts worth millions to Boston Consulting Group and KPMG.
The two consulting firms have been a trusted advisor to the Digital Transformation Agency since the agency’s early days back in 2016, alongside the likes of rivals McKinsey & Company, Deloitte and a bunch of boutiques.
Since the start of this year, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) – a US-origin strategic consultancy – has seen its fee income earned at the DTA surpass the $2.3 million mark. Around half of the fees are related to BCG’s involvement with the development of the COVIDSafe contact tracing app, which to date has bagged the consultancy over $1 million in fees.
Elsewhere, BCG has won a $875,000 contract to provide “critical advice, products and services using a taskforce model to improve digital services for government” according to a public announcement on the AusTender website. This six-month project kicked off in May and runs until the end of November.
The firm previously was contracted of just under $550,000 to provide “whole-of-Australian-government ICT policy and governance” expertise to the Digital Transformation Agency, which is led by ex-BCG’er Randall Brugeand, who worked at the consultancy from 2008 to 2010.
Meanwhile, fellow DTA favourite KPMG has added to the $1.4 million it billed the agency in the DTA’s last financial reporting year. One of the largest projects the Big Four firm works on – helping the DTA improve the maturity of the government’s digital services across customer experience and internal operations – has seen its tally reach a total of $1.5 million.
KPMG recently also landed a $580,000 contract extension for providing procurement strategy support. The firm’s consultants – delivered by KPMG Advisory – are in addition closely involved with the DTA’s GovPass digital identity project on an ongoing basis.
Earlier this year, the Digital Transformation Agency hired McKinsey and Deloitte to guide the design and build of GovDXP, the Facebook-inspired successor of myGov.
