A healthcare consultancy with offices in the North West of England, Dubai and Singapore has been acquired by LDC-backed healthcare communication specialist Lucid Group.

HealthCare21 has been producing healthcare materials and programmes for its clients for more than 23 years. The team has skills in scientific strategy, content creation, editorial and digital design.

Lucid, which has been backed by LDC since 2017, specialises in providing medical communication that transforms patients' lives. Currently, it has five family members within its group; Bluedog, Leading Edge, Lighthouse, Lucid Partners and ViVid.

Both Lucid Group and HealthCare21 clients are expected to experience benefits from the new relationship with direct access to larger teams, editorial expertise and an immediate larger footprint in the North West of the UK. The presence of offices in Singapore and Dubai will also allow expansion into these geographies.

Backed by its private equity partner LDC, Lucid has ambitions to continue to increase capability through future acquisitions.

"This is a perfect match and builds on Lucid’s leadership position in medical communication," said Lucid co-founder Dennis O'Brien.

"We have developed a reputation for excellent strategic consultancy, impactful medcomms, digital excellence and creative execution. HealthCare21 brings further scientific and editorial expertise to increase our offering to our clients and bring more opportunities for our teams."

Cliff Wyatt, HealthCare21 managing director, added: "With our strongest ever year in 2018, this is a good time for us to capitalise on this momentum, benefit from better infrastructure and additional capabilities like behaviour change and establish ourselves further as partner of choice for our clients."

LDC director Christian Bruning said: "Under Dennis's leadership, Lucid continues to increase its reach and diversify its service offering through strategic complementary acquisitions.

"This is Lucid's second acquisition this year after creative digital consultancy Bluedog joined the group in February.

"It represents another positive step in the firm’s ambitious strategy to expand overseas and establish itself as a leading international provider of healthcare communications."
