Boston Consulting Group (BCG) was among the 40 companies in the 2019 list of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures. The ranking, which recognizes Canadian companies with high-performance cultures that sustain a competitive advantage, is administered by Waterstone Human Capital, an HR consulting firm specializing in executive search, culture assessment, and leadership development.
Corporate culture is made up of the shared values and attitudes of an organization’s members. A company’s culture is based on its goals and structure, and how it approaches its employees, customers, and the wider community.
Culture defines the nature of the firm, and sets it up for failure or success. A good culture can entail efficient processes, a supportive work environment, and charitable employees. Having a good corporate culture also shapes the image of the company, which can increase sales and customer loyalty. A strong culture can also attract and retain better talent.
"At Waterstone we believe corporate culture drives performance and that it's your organization's greatest asset," said Marty Parker, president and CEO of Waterstone Human Capital and chair of Canada's Most Admired Corporate Cultures. "This year's most admired award winners each demonstrate a commitment to culture as competitive advantage. They set a truly admirable example of how cultivating and sustaining great cultures can ultimately drive growth and performance."
The 40 national winners were divided among the categories of Growth, Mid-Market, Enterprise, and Broader Public Sector.
Strategy firm BCG was selected in the Mid-Market category, and was the sole management consultancy represented in Waterstone’s list.
Based in Boston and founded in 1963, BCG is one of the prestigious “MBB” strategy firms, alongside McKinsey and Bain. The firm has 18,500 employees in 90-plus offices across 50-plus countries. Working with top corporate and government clients, the firm books annual revenues of $7.5 billion.
In Canada, BCG has more than 300 employees across offices in Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary. The firm’s Canadian operations have seen double-digit growth in the past decade, with 90% of work being repeat business.
For the past 14 years, the company has been named one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For. BCG, like many top management consultancies, boasts generous pay and benefits, modern offices and technology, challenging work, and strong career advancement opportunities.
On the CSR side, the firm delivers pro bono consulting work to help charitable organizations and nonprofits solve problems and boost efficiency. Last year, more than 170 staff performed 9,000-plus hours of social impact work for approximately 30 organizations.
