Accounting and consulting firm MNP has acquired Mobilis Strategic Advisors, a Montreal-based strategy consulting firm.

Mobilis was founded in 2018 by Mary Larson and Kevin Joy, who were colleagues at Montreal firm L&C Strategic Advisory Consultants before launching the Mobilis. The boutique firm has a team of nine senior consultants who help clients build strategic vision to combat disruption, develop leadership capacity, and form cultures that foster collaboration, trust, and business success.

Co-founder and CEO Mary Larson has nearly four decades of business consulting experience. She began her career at strategy firm McKinsey & Company in 1981, where she was a manager, moving on to serve as a partner at Oliver Wyman, a senior partner at Monitor Group, and VP and partner at A.T. Kearney. Prior to founding Mobilis, she was CEO at L&C Strategic Advisory Consultants in Montreal.

Larson has a BA from Princeton University and an MBA from Stanford University.

Cofounder and partner Kevin Joy has 30 years of industry and consulting experience. He started his career at Unilever, where he was a marketing manager, and then served as director of market strategies at Deloitte Canada. Afterwards, Joy was vice president at cybersecurity firm BrandProtect, and VP and GM for Canada at anti-vehicle theft technology firm LoJAck. Prior to cofounding Mobilis, he was a senior consultant at L&C.

Joy has a BEng in chemical engineering from McGill University and an MBA from McMaster University.

As part of MNP’s acquisition of Mobilis, Larson and Joy will join the firm as partners. The firms will merge on January 1, 2020, and the Mobilis team will transition to MNP’s Montreal office.

Sean Murphy, MNP's regional managing partner, consulting, Eastern Canada, said, "We are delighted to have Mobilis join our team, with the support that they provide to business leaders in the areas of strategic thinking and execution. This merger will allow us to build on our existing strengths and offer new solutions, particularly in the areas of leadership and culture, which will bring great additional value to our clients."

The move expands MNP’s consulting practice. The Calgary-headquartered company is the largest mid-market-focused consultancy in Canada, and offers accounting, tax, and advisory services. MNP has 5,000 employees in more than 75 locations across the country.

Jeremy Cole, EVP for MNP's Ontario, Quebec & Atlantic Region, added, "Our clients, from start-ups to public entities, are all looking at how they build leadership capability and drive execution. The services offered by Mobilis strengthen our ability to help clients deliver on those opportunities.”

Larson and Joy highlighted that MNP’s breadth and quality of services, its geographic footprint, and its company culture were big factors in their decision to merge. “At Mobilis, we strongly believe that culture must be aligned to strategy, and MNP shares that core value," Larson said.

Joy added, “We recognized that with 5,000 professionals across the country, and their global alliance with Praxity, MNP would help our clients with projects that expand across the country and internationally."

Earlier this year, MNP acquired Kelowna accounting and consulting firm Chun & Co, Deloitte’s Prince George office, and Mississauga-based ERP consultancy Mantralogix.
