Global consultancy Alvarez & Marsal has announced the launch of a regional office for the UK’s North West, based in Manchester. The new locale is the second regional office the firm has opened in the UK in as many months, as it looks to meet the specialised needs of clients across the country ahead of a year of uncertainty.

With over 3,000 people across four continents, Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is one of the world’s leading professional services firms. A&M’s diverse offering includes debt restructuring solutions, insolvency, and creditor advisory offerings for clients. The firm also applies its operational know-how to corporate performance improvement and transformation projects. Alongside a number of new appointmentsacross its global operations, A&M has also been working to expand its office count.

Recently, this saw the consultancy strengthen its presence in the UK by opening its first regional office in Birmingham, aimed at assisting business leaders across the Midlands. Now, the firm has followed up that move with the news it has opened another regional presence in Manchester, in order to cover clients in the North West. 2019 sees the North West facing significant uncertainty, with the impact of Brexit, fluctuating currency rates, job losses in the manufacturing sector, and changes in consumer spending meaning that firms may need to make fundamental changes to protect and grow their businesses.

A&M’s new office will offer regional business leaders the full range of the firm’s services, including restructuring, turnaround and insolvency support. The firm also applies its operational know-how to corporate performance improvement and transformation projects. The new hub will be led by former KPMG professional Paul Flint, who has joined A&M as a Managing Director. During his spell with the Big Four firm, he rose to the rank of Associate Partner at KPMG, and was instrumental in developing its business in the North West of England.

Flint has more than 30 years of experience providing restructuring advice and helping firms of all sizes find commercial solutions to existing operational and financial issues. Throughout his career, Flint has gained a wealth of experience across a wide array of sectors, including work in the engineering, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, property and financial services industries. His assignments have covered situations from owner-managed concerns to publicly listed companies.

Mark Firmin, Managing Director and Head of UK Regional Restructuring, said, “A&M is embarking on a long-term commitment to Restructuring in the UK regional markets, including Manchester and the North West. I have worked closely with Paul for years and he is a stellar commercial operator who achieves results in challenging situations. He embodies the 'hands-on' approach which we value at A&M and which will greatly benefit businesses facing uncertainty across the region.”
