Atos and Siemens have deepened their long-term alliance, following five years of derived synergies, with an additional €80 million committed to their joint innovation investment programme. The additional funds are set to provide for a range of developing industries, from Industrial Security to the Internet of Things.
The strategic alliance between Atos and Siemens was founded in 2011. Since then, the various synergies leverage through the relationship by the firms has resulted in an intake of €1.7 billion of joint orders for joint customers since inception, while joint innovation programmes have been funded to the tune of €230 million – generating a host of additional benefits for both companies.
Given the reported success of the joint partnership, as attested by the Siemens-Atos Alliance Board, the firms recently announced a deepening of the relationship, as a means of opening up further synergies for the firms themselves as well as their respective clients. The deepening of their joint partnership will see an additional €80 million committed to the funding of their joint innovation investment programme.
The funding will be focused on a number of collaborative fields, including Industrial Security, Industrial Data Analytics, Machine Intelligence, Service Enhancing Technologies and Web of Systems. These fields have generated considerable interest from consulting firms in recent years, including a swathe of collaborations with GE Digital, including that of BearingPoint, PwC and EY.
Thierry Breton, Chairman and CEO of Atos, remarks, “Through our joint investment fund, we have enhanced our R&D programs in areas such as business analytics, cyber security, Internet of Things and digitalisation services worldwide. We are now entering the next level of our digital cooperation, and I am convinced that our customers will even more benefit from our strategic alliance in the years to come.”
Roland Busch, member of the Managing Board of Siemens and member of the Board of Atos, says that the firm is “very happy” with the development of the Alliance over the past five years. He adds, “The Alliance has driven additional joint order intake for both companies, it has sparked many new innovations and it has contributed to improved shareholder returns. I am also pleased that Atos is a key ecosystem partner for our MindSphere industrial cloud platform.”
